Mastering Breathing Techniques

1. Diaphragmatic (Yogic Belly Breathing)

  • Purpose: Foundational technique to calm the nervous system and increase awareness of breath.


2. Ujjayi (Victorious Breath / Ocean Breath)

  • Purpose: Builds focus, warms the body, and lengthens breath.


3. Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing)

  • Purpose: Balances the left/right hemispheres of the brain and calms the mind.


4. Kapalabhati (Skull Shining Breath)

  • Purpose: Energizing, detoxifying technique; clears the mind.


5. Bhramari (Bee Breath)

  • Purpose: Soothes the nervous system, relieves tension and anxiety.


6. Sitali / Sitkari (Cooling Breaths)

  • Purpose: Cools body and calms the mind — especially useful in hot weather or after vigorous practice.
